Louisiana has more owner-operated shrimp fishing vessels than any other state and possibly more than all the other states combined. This is a testimony to the success of a shrimp fishery management philosophy that allows the average citizen to be able to participate in the harvest of our marine fishery resources and is supported by Louisiana’s Right to Fish Laws. It is the purpose of the Louisiana Inshore Shrimper’s Association to protect and preserve these rights for all the citizens of Louisiana and to develop methods of harvesting shrimp to minimize environmental impact such as the stationary wingnet that uses no fossil fuel and does no bottom damage.
